What a chiropractor, a foot surgeon, and a podiatrist found when they put STOKE shoes to the test — and why it matters for your health from the ground up.

Most shoe companies talk about comfort. They put it in ads, stamp it on boxes, and string it through every product description. But comfort is just marketing. What actually matters: what your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and spine care about, is biomechanics. Support. Proper fit.

We asked three medical experts; a Doctor of Chiropractic, a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon, and a board-certified podiatrist to evaluate STOKE shoes from a clinical standpoint. Not as customers. As doctors.

Here's what they found.

DR. MAJOR REEVES, DC  |  Chiropractic Physician, Guntersville, AL

ON WHOLE-BODY ALIGNMENT AND JOINT HEALTH

"As a Doctor of Chiropractic, I've seen firsthand how much proper foot support influences the health of the entire body. That's why I can confidently say STOKE shoes are unmatched when it comes to comfort and performance. From the first step, you can feel the thoughtful design — supportive, cushioned, and perfectly balanced to reduce strain on the joints and spine."

Dr. Reeves treats patients whose foot problems radiate upward — into ankles, knees, hips, and the lower back. In his practice, the foundation isn't a metaphor. It's everything.

"Our feet are the foundation of proper posture and alignment, and STOKE truly understands that. These shoes don't just make walking or working long hours easier — they help your whole body stay in better balance. I recommend them to anyone who values comfort, support, and overall wellness from the ground up."

The takeaway from a chiropractic standpoint: when your foot is properly supported and balanced, the chain reaction up your body is positive. When it isn't — you're working against your own structure with every step.

DR. GRAHAM REID, DPM AACFAS  |  Foot & Ankle Surgeon, Mentor, OHON

BIOMECHANICS, FOREFOOT HEALTH, AND CLINICAL-GRADE CUSHIONING

Dr. Reid is a fellowship-trained, board-qualified foot and ankle surgeon who evaluates footwear through one lens: biomechanics, support, and long-term foot health. He trialed the STOKE FO-MO and came back with a full clinical assessment.

His first observation was the FO-MO's forefoot architecture. Most modern athletic shoes taper toward the toe — a design choice that restricts natural foot splay and, over time, can contribute to conditions like hallux valgus (bunions) and digital contractures (hammertoes). The FO-MO takes a different approach.

"The combination of the Big Ball Girth and Mansplay Midsole allows for more natural forefoot splay compared to many modern athletic shoes. The forefoot geometry of the Stoke FO-MO allows the metatarsal heads to spread more naturally during stance and gait, which improves overall comfort."

On cushioning, Dr. Reid offered a direct comparison to the gold standard. For four years, he wore New Balance 990v5 with custom orthotics — in the clinic and in the operating room. One month into wearing the FO-MO, that changed.

"The Powerstack midsole provides substantial cushioning and shock absorption. The underfoot feel of the Stoke FO-MO is comparable or superior in terms of perceived shock attenuation during prolonged standing and walking. After wearing the Stoke FO-MO for just over a month, it has become my primary daily shoe for clinic and surgical days, and I have not found orthotics to be necessary while wearing them."

He also noted the Elastech upper's role: flexible enough to accommodate forefoot width variations, structured enough to contain and support the foot throughout the gait cycle.

From a clinical perspective, Dr. Reid identified the FO-MO as a reasonable option for patients with hallux valgus, metatarsalgia, plantar fasciitis, or athletes seeking a recovery shoe following high-impact activity.

"From a biomechanical standpoint, the Stoke FO-MO represents a thoughtful departure from the narrow, tapered forefoot designs common in modern footwear. For individuals who spend prolonged periods standing or walking, it offers a combination of forefoot accommodation, cushioning, and functional comfort that aligns well with principles of foot health."

DR. BRUCE PINKER, DPM, AACFAS, FAPWCA, DABPM, FACPM  |  Foot & Ankle Surgeon, New York

ON WIDE-FOOT ACCOMMODATION, PRODUCT FEEL, AND DAILY WEARABILITY

Dr. Pinker evaluated both the STOKE FO-MO and the STOKE VERSA — and weighed in on what makes STOKE particularly relevant for patients with wide feet.

On the FO-MO:

"The FO-MO is super cushioned and bouncy with a rocker bottom that helps you roll through each step. There's so much cushion that it actually propels you forward with the bounce."

On the VERSA:

"The VERSA is somewhat more stable than the FOMO, but still very cushioned and supportive. Definitely comfortable. Not as much of a rocker bottom feel as the FOMO."

And on the population of patients who stand to benefit most — a group the footwear industry has chronically underserved:

"STOKE footwear is beneficial for those with wide feet as it is not constricting and offers appropriate width to accommodate wide feet."

Most shoes built for wide feet are an afterthought — the same last stretched out, boxier, and usually uglier. STOKE engineers width-first. The difference isn't cosmetic. Clinically, a shoe that actually fits reduces pressure on the metatarsal heads, decreases friction-related skin breakdown, and prevents the kind of compensation patterns that cause ankle, knee, and hip pain downstream.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Three doctors with different specialties — chiropractic, podiatric surgery, and foot and ankle surgery — evaluated STOKE from three different clinical angles. The consensus isn't an accident. It reflects what happens when a shoe is actually designed around how the human foot is supposed to move.

If you're dealing with plantar fasciitis, bunions, metatarsalgia, or chronic foot and ankle pain from shoes that have never fit correctly — STOKE is worth your attention. Not because we say so, but because the doctors do.

And if you've just been living with wide feet in a narrow-shoe world, quietly absorbing the discomfort because you assumed this was as good as it gets — it isn't.

Fit is a right, not a luxury.

Medical testimonials reflect the independent clinical evaluations of each physician. Individual results may vary. STOKE Shoes does not provide medical advice.
